The Ideologies of Insights

There is no clear definition of the word ideology but it is used in different ways. In our day to day life, ideology is used to define a wide, cohesive political beliefs and ideas like socialism, liberalism, conservatism, etc. Ideology in sociology is used in one way and in a different way by Marxists.

Based on the Marxist definition, ideology is a word used to define a set of beliefs and ideas that are prevalent in society and are used to justify the privileges and powers of those in the ruling class. The mainstream use of ideology as a word is neutral, however, it can be perceived as good or bad depending on the person. The negative concept of ideology is that it is used to hide the truth, to provide a false image of how the world works so as to control and manipulate them.

Ideology is an important aspect that determines how people arrive at decisions. For a person to be able to make good decisions, they must be open-minded to every likely solution for the issues being considered. Ideology has been defined as a set of beliefs, theories, opinions or principles that an individual, group of people or society holds either in regards to religion or politics that explains and gives legitimacy to their behavior in their own way of thinking.

However, ideology is more complex than the above definitions and has nothing to do with one’s level of intelligence. It can be simply symbolized as a set of glasses which human beings view the world. Being nonideological is slightly different from being pragmatic that means handling issues or situations realistically and practically but taking note that some level of pragmatism helps in making reliably good decisions.

There is a lot of debate about important aspects of ideology more so in extreme ideology. You may want to ask yourself what causes ideologies or if the people with very extreme ideologies know they are that way or even if it is possible for an individual to be ideologically neutral. However, there is no clear answer to these questions but it is believed that every person has a level of ideological thinking regarding their own world view.

Every ideology is composed of the following characteristics:

It must be more powerful than cognition

It must offer a guideline to one’s evaluations

It should provide guidelines towards what should be done or action

It should be coherent logically
